LOVE'S SACRIFICE

ESUANDEL

LATE MEETING

The sun was low in yonder sky

Dusk creeping ever nearer

Little light came from on high

The white thin trees seemed shearer.

As darkness closed so came a man

Sorrowful of his future

And all his love that he must ban

Alone for Arwen's nature.

He knew that she must sail away

That all death was for her here

Yet his heart longed for her to stay

And push far now all his fear.

Arwen's soft footsteps rustled then

All the leaves upon the ground

And danced sadly up to him, when

Aragorn, he turned around.

"Arwen, elf, you should not have come"

Quietly said her lover

And they felt each a magic hum

Broken love, they to cover.

"I chose before a mortal life"

Arwen whispered in the night

"I'd rather die by blade of knife

Than sail far out of your sight."

Aragorn reached his neck about

And took off the Evenstar

He wished not for her to take this rout

Offering her life in war.

Her pendant she would not take back

The beautiful star, shining

"Keep it, it was a gift you lack"

She turned, was for him pining.

That night they parted, sadly so

Yet the Lady's grief was great

"It was all a dream, Arwen, know"

But she would not believe fate.

DEFEATING GLORY

As Aragorn fought evil ways

And triumphed over Mordor

He thought of Arwen, her bright rays

Lighting this dark corridor.

Sauron's forces, ever stronger

Started overcoming him

Men were failing, little longer

'Till the world was dark and dim.

"It is time" said Arwen, Lady

"Reforge now the broken sword

When all hope is gone or shady

Shall come forth Gondor's new Lord."

So it was then that Elrond made

From the knife Narsil's thin shards

The king's sword Anduril, sharp blade

Dead's commander, slicing hard.

To Aragorn this sword was gave

Protecting him from all harm

Into fierce battle he went grave

Giving Frodo his chance warm.

In Rivendell Arwen the elf

Lay cold on her bed dying

Tied to the Ring was fate, herself

She tried her death defying.

Out on the trampled battle field

For one moment time stood still

Aragorn, Anduril to wield

Awaiting fate, strong his will.

Suddenly a red burst blew up

When never there was much hope

The Ring was gone! Lava's gold cup

Rolled down Mount Doom's cracking slope.

All grief, strife, and evil destroyed!

A great burden never more

Yonder darkened clouds were void

The great Eye had wounded sore.

With a deathly powerful burst

No more was left of the Eye

Aragorn's valor, never cursed

Blessed by magic from the sky.

FOR THEIR LOVE

Aragorn was Gondor's true king

His bravery beyond lords

Yet in his heart was still a sting

Where he kept her love there stored.

He stood there still, crowned now god's king

Facing towards his own people

A hymn then he began to sing

Bells ringing from the steeple.

Mysterious was what he saw

Advancing, hidden, to him

He hoped that there was no such law

To keep him from her white limb.

Arwen, beautiful beyond life

Had come back to him again

And desireful for a wife

No more cold where she had lain.

This elven lady, so shimmering

Pulled aside her curtain then

Light pale green bodice glimmering

Him, she saw no other man.

The smile on her lips was pure

As the white sun high above

Hard it had been, her to endure

The great hardships if their love.

Into each other's eyes they stared

And saw within their smooth depths

Great passion that the other cared

Daring hope that each accepts.

No longer could he hold away

Her elven beauty lured him

And under Earendil's bright ray

He reached out for her form, slim.

As their lips touched it was a sign

Of faith, of passion, of love

Beren and elf Luthien divine

Had the same gift from above.

They could be parted never more

Bitter much they had learned of

Their longing and thriving before

The sacrifices of love.
